Upcycled Ring

One of my favorite pieces of jewelry is this big wooden ring. I wore it a lot. As you can see from the photo below it's become very scuffed and worn. So I haven't worn it in awhile and it seems like such a waste.

So I decided to upcycle. It's something I've been thinking about doing for awhile, but then finally did it this past weekend. I was trying to figure out what color to paint it and originally thought I'd use turquoise since it's my favorite but then I thought gold and knew it was the right colour!

It took about six coats and it's a little bumpy but to be honest I don't even care because it's now wearable and lovely I think.

I will definitely be wearing this a lot! I want to maybe get some kind of varnish or sealer for it to make it less likely to chip - but for now I'll just be careful and keep the gold paint standing by for touch ups.

What have you upcycled lately?

Friendship Bracelets

Sometimes I swear I'm about 12. Wanting to make friendship bracelets today helped to confirm that. But you know what? It's totally okay, because making friendship bracelet is fun.

I made some simple braiding bracelets, some for me and some for my sister. I had some thick DMC floss that is too thick for most of my needles but perfect for bracelets.

Making friendship bracelets brings back summers of childhood spending hours making all kinds of tricky ones. Do you remember those days?

Here's some links to friendship bracelet tutorials:

There's something about these that make me equal parts happy and nostalgic.

What kind of friendship bracelets did you make as a child?

Infinity Scarf DIY

Like many of you I'm sure, I have a ton of scarves. I love scarves - I pretty much wear them year round.  I am loving infinity scarves but unfortunately my pocket book doesn't, and so instead of going out to buy an all new scarf collection, here's a way to pep, spruce and excite the scarves you already have. I found a bunch of tutorials online and kind of amalgamated them into working for me. Here's how I did it.

Infinity Scarf DIY

Need:
  • your old scarves
And thats it!! (The best DIY don't require a lot of equipment right?!)

Lay your scarf end to end so all the little tassels are connecting. I gave my scarves a twist to make them more 'inifinity'. Now tie the tassels together one by one with a simple knot.

The best thing is this doesn't take much time at all. You can chop these tassels off right above the knot if you want, but I left mine in case I wanted to undo them later.

And that's it! Put the scarf on and wear it with pride. (And excuse this picture, the sun was shining pretty much everywhere in my house and I'm crazy tired. Such is life!)

How'd your scarf turn out?
